"Wow, Finn! Did you know that the gods weren't perfect? Even Zeus, the King of the Gods, couldn't change his destiny if the three Fates decided it! That's a huge lesson about fate we cover in our episode!"
What is Greek Mythology, Anyway?
Greek Mythology is like a giant collection of ancient Greek comic books, but told as stories! These myths feature gods, goddesses, heroes, and strange creatures. The ancient Greeks believed these powerful figures controlled the world around them. They built huge, beautiful temples to honor their main gods and goddesses, hoping for good luck and safe travels.
The most famous of these deities lived high up on Mount Olympus—they are called the Olympians. These gods and goddesses looked like super-strong, super-beautiful humans, but they had incredible powers and were immortal, meaning they lived forever!
Mind-Blowing Fact!
Even though the Greeks had tons of gods, the most important group is usually called the Twelve Olympians! But don't worry if the list changes sometimes—the Greeks told stories in a few different ways!
Meet the Big Three Rulers of the Universe!
When the Olympian gods defeated the older, giant gods called the Titans (led by Cronus), they divided the world among the three most powerful brothers. This created the top leadership of the universe!
Zeus got the sky and became the King of the Gods. Poseidon took charge of all the seas and oceans. And Hades? He became the ruler of the Underworld, the land of the dead.

How Did Zeus Become King of the Gods?
It wasn't an easy win! The story begins with the Titans, who were the first gods. The leader of the Titans, Cronus, was afraid his own children would overthrow him, just like he overthrew *his* father. So, what did he do? He swallowed them whole as soon as they were born! Talk about a bad dad!
But his wife, Rhea, saved the youngest, Zeus. She tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock instead! When Zeus grew up, he forced Cronus to spit out all his brothers and sisters—Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, and Demeter—who were still little babies inside him!
The Great War: Titanomachy
Once free, Zeus and his siblings, along with powerful monsters called the Cyclops, started a massive, ten-year war against the Titans. This huge battle was called the Titanomachy.
Zeus won by using his awesome thunderbolts! After defeating the Titans, Zeus and his brothers took over. Zeus ruled the sky, Poseidon ruled the sea, and Hades ruled the gloomy Underworld.
